ClipDrop API alternative
ClipDrop API alternative:
self-serve background removal, no sales call
ClipDrop's APIs are now part of Jasper. After the 100 free credits, its pricing page sends you to a contact form. Poof keeps the same x-api-key + image_file request, with published prices from $0.002 per image and 100 free credits every month.
- Published pricing. Plans from $9/month; $0.002 per image on Ultra.
- 100 free credits every month, not once.
- Near-identical request. Change the URL and the key; keep the rest.
Why developers pick Poof over ClipDrop
Prices you can read
ClipDrop's API pricing page now asks you to contact Jasper to request credits. Poof publishes every plan: $9 for 2,000 images, $29 for 10,000, $99 for 50,000 ($0.002 per image) and $299 for 200,000.
Free credits that renew
ClipDrop gives 100 free API credits once you log in; after that, calls are rejected until you buy more. Poof gives 100 credits every month, full resolution, no card.
Same shape of request
Both APIs take a multipart image_file with an x-api-key header and return the PNG as bytes. Poof adds image_url and base64 input, output format, size, crop and background colour options.
EU company, GDPR compliant
Poof is an EU company and GDPR compliant. Your images are never used to train models, commercial use is allowed on every plan and no attribution is required.

Migrating from the ClipDrop API
ClipDrop and Poof both accept a multipart upload with an API-key header and return the processed PNG in the response body. Point the request at api.poof.bg and swap the key.
curl -X POST https://clipdrop-api.co/remove-background/v1 \
-H 'x-api-key: CLIPDROP_KEY' \
-F 'image_file=@product.jpg' \
-o cutout.pngcurl -X POST https://api.poof.bg/v1/remove \
-H 'x-api-key: POOF_KEY' \
-F 'image_file=@product.jpg' \
-o cutout.png- The default response is a PNG with transparency on both sides. On Poof, add format=jpg or webp, bg_color, size or crop when you need them.
- Poof also accepts image_url and image_file_b64 if you would rather not upload a file.
- ClipDrop returns x-remaining-credits; Poof exposes usage through the account endpoint and returns X-Processing-Time-Ms, X-Image-Width and X-Matte-Confidence headers.
- ClipDrop's transparency_handling option has no Poof equivalent; Poof processes the image as given.

Price comparison
ClipDrop does not publish a per-image price (its pricing page now routes to a Jasper contact form), so only the Poof side can be shown. All figures are per month.

| 2,000 | — | $9 (Pro) |
| 10,000 | — | $29 (Mega) |

When ClipDrop is the better choice
Poof does one thing. If you need these, ClipDrop may fit better.
You use ClipDrop's other APIs
Cleanup and the rest of the ClipDrop API catalogue live behind the same key. Poof only removes backgrounds.
You are already a Jasper customer
If your team buys Jasper's marketing platform, bundling API credits into that contract may be simpler than adding a separate vendor.
You rely on transparency_handling
ClipDrop can return the input untouched when it is already non-opaque. Poof does not have that switch; handle it before the request.
You still have unused ClipDrop credits
Credits do not transfer. Run them down while you validate Poof on the free plan, then move.
ClipDrop alternative FAQ
How much does the ClipDrop background removal API cost?
ClipDrop's documentation states that one successful background removal call costs one credit, and that logged-in users can claim 100 free credits. Beyond that, the API pricing page at clipdrop.co/apis/pricing now redirects to a contact form for Jasper, so no public per-credit price is published. Checked 18 September 2026.
How does Poof's pricing compare to ClipDrop's?
Poof publishes all plans: Pro $9 for 2,000 images, Mega $29 for 10,000, Ultra $99 for 50,000 ($0.002 per image) and Giga $299 for 200,000. Every account also gets 100 free credits a month. Because ClipDrop no longer publishes a per-credit price, we cannot show a side-by-side monthly figure.
Is the Poof API compatible with the ClipDrop remove-background API?
The requests are near-identical: an x-api-key header, a multipart image_file field, and the PNG returned in the response body. Change the endpoint to https://api.poof.bg/v1/remove and use a Poof key. ClipDrop's transparency_handling option has no equivalent on Poof.
See the Poof API referenceDoes Poof have a free tier?
Yes. Every account gets 100 production credits a month at full resolution, with no credit card. ClipDrop's 100 free credits are a one-time allowance. You can also test in the Poof playground without an account.
Open the playgroundCan I keep my ClipDrop integration code?
Mostly. The upload field and header names match, so in most code the only changes are the URL and the key. Poof's SDKs for Python and TypeScript are optional.
Does Poof use my images for anything else?
No. Images are only processed to fulfil your request and are never used to train models. Poof is an EU company and GDPR compliant; the privacy policy describes how images are handled. Commercial use is allowed on every plan, with no attribution required.
